You can purchase something like Izotope Ozone which makes all of this much simpler. Even so, I can do this with most full, unbounced songs, running VI's etc. This is also fairly CPU intensive but since it's probably not something you would do except on an already mixed tune you probably won't have anything going but a single stereo track with your audio that you want to master. ONE THING: You'll need plug-in delay compensation set to ALL in your preferences since you're gonna have a lot of latency on those Aux tracks with the eq's.

But you can read about standard settings for crossover filters and such online. You'll have to play with the eq filters to get the right settings so that things sound "untouched" if you bypass all the compressors and just chop up your audio spectrum and then put it back together. Then all your frequency chopped audio gets put back together on the main output. Some mastering engineers even like to throw a slight delay on some of the frequency bands, or use some overdrive on some of them (often the higher ones). Then you could, for example, use the low frequencies from the kick drum to compress only the mid-bands in the audio. You can even route one frequency band through the compressor sidechain on a different frequency's Buss/Aux. You'll get ultimate tweak-ability/character shaping with all the features of logic's standard compressor. Throw Logic's single band compressor, a limiter - whatever you want after the eq. Basically, make custom crossover filters. Use Logic's Linear Phase EQ on each Aux with sharp filters to chop up the audio. (however many bands you want) busses/Aux tracks. Even if Logic's multiband comp is a little lackluster (personally I think it's does a fine job, although it's not a "character/coloration" plug if that's what you're looking for, I'll guess).

Adaptive off, this means no sensitivity and the threshold is absolute regardless of what’s happening in the lower band. The Adaptive control is a continuous scale of sensitivity to the Masker scaled in dB’s. So is the standard compressor, especially in L8 with the additional compression models. The Linear Phase MultiBand processor lets each band be sensitive to the energy in the band below it. I'll give you another option - roll your own multiband compressor/limiter. What is it you are looking for? What don't you like about the multipressor?
